One possibility is that the Unknown Worlds could be returning to work on Future Perfect. However, the studio was unwilling to say more. To quote him directly, “I would imagine we would be rethinking those things, at least the multiplayer side of things if we do future a Subnautica game.” While he does not make any specific promises, Strader says that multiplayer isn’t off the table if and when a new Subnautica comes around. However, Strader indicated that the studio was “rethinking” their attitude on multiplayer. There are mods for both, of course, but no official support. Still, the core experience is mostly the same.Īnd because Unknown Worlds intended Below Zero to be DLC, the developers omitted potential new features like multiplayer and VR. Below Zero offers noticeably more exploration above the surface and new vehicles to explore it with. The player must stave off hypothermia in the harsh environment. The primary gameplay difference is the addition of a temperature mechanic.
As a result, it’s quite similar to the 2018 original. As Strader explains, Unknown Worlds initially planned for Below Zero to be a DLC for Subnautica rather than a standalone game.
